Ice FLAKE Machine Installed at Afaa to Support Tongatapu 10 Communities

Afaa, Tongatapu – The installation of a new ice flake machine in Afaa was successfully completed last Friday, marking an important step in improving fisheries support services for communities in the Tongatapu 10 Constituency.

The project is part of the Government’s (PPP) Program for the 2024/2025 Financial Year, aimed at strengthening community-based economic activities and improving access to essential fisheries infrastructure.

The ice flake machine will provide a reliable local supply of ice for fishers, vendors and community members, helping to preserve catch quality, reduce post-harvest losses and support the local fishing industry. By bringing this service closer to the communities, the initiative contributes to the Government’s broader goal of decentralizing services and empowering rural constituencies.

The successful completion of the project reflects the Government’s continued commitment to working with communities and partners to strengthen local fisheries infrastructure and promote sustainable economic opportunities across Tonga.
