Term & Conditions

Fisheries Term and Conditions

Tonga’s tuna fisheries are governed by a comprehensive framework that sets out all associated fees, licensing requirements, and operational conditions for local, locally‑based foreign, foreign, and high‑seas fishing vessels. The regulations outline mandatory charges for processing and export establishments, high‑seas permits, and foreign vessel licences, alongside access fees, catch‑value charges, and observer fees for longline operations. Vessel operators must comply with strict terms covering reporting, VMS operation, observer placement, crew composition, gear restrictions, shark‑bycatch rules, environmental protection, and 100% landing obligations in approved Tongan ports. Together, these measures ensure sustainable tuna harvesting, transparent monitoring, and full adherence to national laws and regional conservation standards.
